Description Local Position Summary

"The Associate Director, Data Science serves as a key technical and strategic leader responsible for developing and advancing the statistical, mathematical, and algorithmic frameworks that support bioMerieux diagnostic systems. This role oversees a team of data scientists and external partners, guiding projects from early feasibility through full product development using advanced analytics, experimental design, and machine learning.

The position requires close collaboration with crossfunctional teams-including engineering, R&D, quality, marketing, regulatory, and manufacturing-to prototype, integrate, and evaluate nextgeneration diagnostic technologies. The Associate Director also ensures ongoing support for commercialized products through contributions to manufacturing process improvements, quality analytics, and product enhancements.

Success in this role requires strong analytical expertise, effective leadership, and the ability to manage and inspire a team while delivering solutions that are robust, scalable, and aligned with longterm product and organizational goals."

Primary Duties
  1. Demonstrates strong expertise in applied mathematics, machine learning, statistics, and image processing, with a solid foundation in both fundamental and advanced concepts.

  2. Leads the development of market-ready products and technologies by organizing functional teams, setting clear objectives, and overseeing all related development activities.

  3. Ensures ongoing product support throughout field deployment, manufacturing, and quality processes.

  4. Oversees team management and talent development, providing mentorship, maintaining a fair and rigorous performance management process, and guiding training and professional growth plans.

  5. Manages the function with a deep understanding of team capabilities, leveraging the unique strengths of each technical staff member to maximize overall performance.

  6. Resolves conflicts in objectives and facilitates constructive interactions within the team and across other groups.

  7. Coordinates and integrates parallel global projects, ensuring seamless collaboration with other departments and consistent, effective communication.

  8. Establishes processes and procedures aligned with functional, project, and program needs.

  9. Drives continuous improvement of processes and procedures within and beyond the function, ensuring compliance with the quality system, regulatory requirements, and Global R&D standards.

  10. Manages and controls the functional operating budget, including financial oversight of assigned projects and related costs.

  11. Communicate results, risks, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.

  12. Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired Education, Training and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required - Data Science, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering

  • 8+ years of experience in Machine Learning, Statistics, Image Analysis, Signal/Time Series Analysis and at least 5 years of team management/leadership

Preferred Education, Training and Experience
  • Master's Degree, PhD Preferred

  • Programming experience with Python or R

  • Work Experience in ISO or FDA regulated environment preferred

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements (Summary)

The estimated salary range for this role is between $150,000 and $214,000. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux's bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate's experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
