Responsibilities
The Department of Computer Science at the Florida State University seeks a top scholar for a Thinking Machines Endowed Chair position to begin in August 2026. This is an open rank, 9-month, full-time, and benefits eligible position. We are particularly interested in a senior faculty member who has the experience and expertise to lead a cutting-edge research group. The focus areas include Systems Security, Compiler and Programming Languages, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Sensor Systems and Networks, Human Computer Interactions, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics and Visualization, High-Performance Distributed and Cloud Systems, Quantum Computing, and Full-Stack Co-Designed Systems that support Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Outstanding applicants in other areas will also be considered.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in Computer Science or closely related field with demonstrated record of achievement in teaching and academic research is required. Candidates with outstanding academic credentials commensurate with tenured Associate or Full Professors are encouraged.

The department currently has 31 tenure-track and 7 specialized faculty members and offers degrees at the BS, MS, and PhD levels. Our annual research expenditure has been growing substantially in the past several years and was over five million dollars in the 2025 fiscal year. The department is an NSA/DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE/CDE) and Research (CAE-R). FSU is classified among R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research and a top 20 national public university. Its primary role is to serve as a center for advanced graduate and professional studies while emphasizing research and providing excellence in undergraduate education.
