The Role

We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of SiL SIE (Software-in-the-Loop Simulation Integration Engineer) to support the Global Virtual Engineering (GVE) department. This role is part of a group responsible for creating virtual environments to enable calibration, verification, and validation of embedded controllers for engine, transmission, hybrid, electrification, chassis, and body electronics.

The Simulation Integration Engineer is responsible for leading the move to virtual engineering by leading the integration of full-vehicle cross-functional co-simulation packages that are used for all aspects of vehicle development. This position involves high level of collaboration with teams throughout General Motors including Propulsion Engineering (PE), Vehicle Motion Embedded Controls (VMEC), Embedded Platform Systems & Infrastructure (EPSI), Calibration, Algorithm, Vehicle Performance, Validation, and Hardware Development. This position requires an individual with a passion for virtualization, an adept knowledge of hardware and software integrated systems, and a demonstrated capability to manage a wide variety of technical and customer needs. He or she will work as a liaison between the Plant Modeling team, Tools team, and internal development teams, to integrate and deliver simulation environments on time and with quality. A balance of technical and project leadership skills and the ability to think outside the box to find simple yet exciting solutions is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify requirements, schedule, and deploy simulation projects to enable virtual vehicle design, development, and validation
  • Engage with cross functional team members to coordinate on-time delivery of simulation components to meet requirements and timing
  • Integrate plant models and other ECU models with controller software source code and perform virtual system verification based on requirements
  • Obtain, develop, parameterize, and test virtual controller models to be used across different components such as HWIO, RTOS, controller I/O, and other ECU behavioral models
  • Perform simulation correlation activities based on experimental data
  • Create, maintain, and improve standard simulation architectures
  • Provide support for released simulations, including detailed documentation, and assist users with testing and troubleshooting
  • Design, develop, verify, and execute automated test suites
  • Assist initiatives to benchmark and adopt next-generation simulation technology and tools
  • Identify, implement, and standardize new simulation development processes of engineering
  • Provide process and architecture feedback improvements
  • Work in and using the SAFe / Agile construct

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • SIMULATION TOOLS: adept experience with MATLAB, Simulink, GMSim, ECU behavioral models; in the context of plant model development and integration
  • PLANT MODELS: familiarity or experience with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, GT Suite, GT Power, CarSim, AMESim, etc. and integrating these models into CoSimulations
  • EMBEDDED SOFTWARE: experience with embedded controls software and architectures, especially AUTOSAR
  • COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS: familiarity with automotive communication technologies including CAN, LIN, SPI, Ethernet
  • Familiarity in computer programming languages including C/C++, Python
  • Experience in leading large and/or difficult projects with high levels of ambiguity
  • Proven ability to work in teams, balancing technical theory with practical limitations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED

  • MS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • SAFe certification(s)
  • Comprehensive vehicle propulsion system-level knowledge
  • Familiarity with version control systems (VCS) tools like Git, SVN and TFS.
  • Familiarity with simulation data management (SDM) systems like TeamCenter and RTC.
  • Familiarity with GCC compiler, gdb debugger, Eclipse, and ETAS INCA measurement and calibration tools
