Overview
Microsoft Advertising empowers the world's largest advertisers to reach their maximum potential through digital advertising solutions on the Microsoft Advertising platform. The User Identity Graph plays a critical role in connecting requests from multiple platforms and devices to the same user, powering all MAI surfaces including Copilot while driving measurable impact in ad personalization, audience targeting, measurement, and richer user insights across MAI. The Ads Data Management Platform team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Applied Scientist to join our dynamic team to build a new modernized User Identity Graph and measure the graph quality.
As an Applied Scientist in the team, you will be a founding contributors in developing and deploying a new modernized User Identity Graph with measurable quality metrics, designing rigorous online and offline experimentation frameworks, work in a cross-functional set-up to amplify graph usage, and translating complex data into actionable insights that drive business impact.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with ad personalization, ad/conversion measurement, and audience targeting teams to incorporate their requirements into graph design and serving.

  • Serve as a founding contributor by analyzing existing graphs to identify opportunities, then creating, deploying, and evaluating a modernized User Identity Graph powered by production ML models.

  • Design rigorous experiments and apply appropriate analytical methods to evaluate iterations of the User Identity Graph.

  • Review business requirements, define metrics aligned to business goals, and partner with engineering team to build the supporting data flows and dashboards.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • 3+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).

  • 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
  • Experience with developing graph based identity models to perform cross device user stitching, applying deterministic and probabilistic matching algorithms to construct large-scale identity graphs.
