Job description

Overview
This is a PRN Position.
Responsible for performing the technical and clerical duties not requiring professional judgment in the Cancer Center Pharmacy distribution system. These duties are associated with providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to ambulatory infusion patients of Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
Qualifications
This is a PRN Position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registration: All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or licensed Pharmacist Intern prior to their first day of employment.
Education, Experience, and Training:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. One of the following requirements must be met for minimum training or minimum experience in lieu of training:
a. Completion of Military Hospital Core School and/or completion of Field Service School
b. Completion of an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program
c. Completion of a college based Pharmacy Technician Training Program
d. One year hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred.
e. One year retail pharmacy technician experience preferred.
f. One year pharmaceutical inventory function experience - including proper ordering from approved vendors to ensure adequate inventory based upon demand as well as maintenance of a pharmacy inventory.
g. One year (24 credit hours) science based college level study which must include successful completion of Algebra
h. One year experience transcribing/interpreting physician orders plus 12 credit hours of science based college level study, which must include successful completion of algebra
Candidates presenting with multiple qualifications defined in section 2 are preferred.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, Laminar Air Flow Hood experience, and knowledge of repackaging and compounding techniques preferred.

Job Knowledge:
  • Must know how to operate typewriter, calculator, fax machine, and computer workstation.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform mathematical calculations required to prepare medications
  • Some knowledge of insurance and billing regarding ambulatory practices highly desired.

Additional Requirement: As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide a valid telephone number to the department staff assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.
