Description Title: Operations Coordinator (OIKI Island Hub Coordinator) Position Number: 0097187T Hiring Unit: Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Office of Indigenous Knowledge and Innovation (OIKI) Location: Oahu Date Posted: 07/10/2026 Closing Date: 07/24/2026 Band: B Salary: salary schedules and placement information Full Time/Part Time: Full-time Month: 11-month Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other conditions: This position is annually renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and/or availability of funding. Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions): *Oversees the day-to-day management, coordination, and execution of assigned programming initiatives. **Translates and adapts programming developed by Center Directors to ensure it meets the unique needs and desired impact of local UH partners, Community Innovation partners, and other key stakeholders.
*Assists in the drafting and preparation of research findings derived from island-centric programs for academic publication and community presentation. *Maintains the flow of communication between the island-centric hubs and the broader OIKI leadership team through regular leadership meetings. *Organizes hub activities, including ho'ike, workshops, research symposiums, and mentorship sessions.
*Ensures that data management plans and ethical protocols are understood and followed by all students and faculty working at the hub. *Assists in the recruitment and supervision of student research assistants, community practitioners, and other relevant forms of OIKI employment with their affiliated portfolio of programs by serving on strategic planning and hiring committees where appropriate. *Maintains hub calendars, meeting minutes, and digital communication channels through the University of Hawai'i Google Workspace.
*Serves as the first point of contact for community organizations, practitioners, and other island-centric stakeholders. *Facilitates regular meetings with local Community Innovation Partners, UH students, and local UH admin & faculty to ensure OIKI programs and projects align with community needs and aspirations. *Compiles semi-annual progress reports and annual SWOC (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Concerns) analyses for the island hub.
*Develops and tracks fiscal expenditures for the hub, ensuring resource allocation aligns with approved budgets from Center Directors and OVPRI; as well as community agreements. *Contributes to the dissemination of outcomes (reports, journal articles, policy papers, artworks, technical prototypes, etc.) in a way that allows for community-centered stewardship and is accessible to the local community. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Professional Work Experience: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, Social Sciences, Public Health, Environmental Science, Design, Computer Science, or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program coordination, community organizing, or project management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of program coordination, community organizing, or project management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with program coordination, community organizing, or project management.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and Google Workspace.
