ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking to hire an Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer who will provide mechanical engineering expertise to our project teams, ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule, and contractual requirements are achieved. This individual will play an active role in project management duties such as conferring with internal and external stakeholders and preparing all necessary technical documentation. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the mechanical design and project engineering teams to ensure working plans and technical drawings meet project specifications and goals. This individual reports to the Mechanical Department Manager and will also be responsible for mentoring and guiding junior-level members of the team.

EXPERIENCE& ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Graduate of a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering designation with APEGA is a must.
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering field; EP/EPC experience is very desirable.
  • Recent experience in executing multi-projects and multi-disciplined small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Expertise in piping design and material selection in accordance to oil and gas projects in Western Canada.
  • High level of knowledge in the use of oil and gas industry codes and standards, including but not limited to CSA, ASME, and API.
  • Experience in pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II, including NozzlePRO and FE/Pipe or other FEA software is considered an asset.
  • Experience with vessel and heat exchanger design to ASME and TEMA standards. Experience with COMPRESS, PVElite, or similar software is considered an asset.
  • Experience with various rotating equipment, such as compressors, gas/steam turbines, pumps, compressor and pump seals, as well as special-purpose rotating equipment auxiliary systems would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CAD design software (for viewing files) would be an asset.
  • High level of knowledge for the use of appropriate construction methods.
  • Previous site/field-level experience is considered an asset.
  • Previous pipeline engineering experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and PDF editor programs used to create reports and documents.
  • US PE is an asset

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute mechanical engineering activities with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope to the relevant codes, standards, and company/client procedures.
  • Perform calculations and develop material takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Stamp and issue drawings.
  • Analyze technical issues within their core engineering discipline, aided and supported by the other specialist disciplines.
  • Develop work plans, execution of strategies, and project resource planning given schedule, budget, and scope constraints.
  • Perform detailed reviews of project mechanical design specifications, design drawings, and standard detail drawings.
  • Provide drafters with modifications to technical drawings and work plans according to engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for design team.
  • Review and ensure required corrections are completed by designers and meets project standards. A high attention to detail is needed.
  • Report to the Mechanical Department Manager on the progress of work and ensure coordination between the engineering and design team.
  • Mentor, direct work, and supervise junior team members on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the development of discipline-specific work practices and procedures.
  • Manage to budget and schedules for assigned scopes of work. Identify any slippages to schedule or budget and make changes accordingly; prepare or assist with preparing change notices, as required.
  • Assist in the creation of other project documents such as Requests for Information (RFIs) and Purchase Recommendations.
  • Identifying any new or novel engineering features or software.
  • Attend and host team/project meetings and client meetings.
  • Partner with stakeholders in proposal writing, marketing presentations, and organization of internal resources for assigned prospects.
  • Support the business development of Kleinfelder and liaise any possible opportunities.
  • Assist in creating work document packages during closeout of projects.
  • Travel to field for project scoping, verification, construction support, and meeting with clients.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.
