Road Technician
Classification

Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Road Technician position is to determine the status of service needed for various heavy machinery and/or machinery equipment. Technician will perform the necessary service, preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements and installations or re-building of parts to restore the equipment to proper operation.
Essential Functions
  • Provide troubleshooting and after-sale support to ensure timely resolution to customer issues.
  • Diagnose hydraulic and electrical issues affecting the performance of the machine control system.
  • Properly install and update equipment, check cables and connections to the hardware.
  • Provide technical guidance, pre-sale application analysis, product specification and customer demonstrations for Trimble products.
  • Diagnostics and Equipment Repair. This includes liquid propane, gas and diesel engines. Electric motors, transmissions, drive axles and differentials. Hydraulic systems, brake, steering, electrical and lifting systems, etc.
  • Perform routine, and operational maintenance to ensure that equipment continues to run according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Properly block, chock and chain equipment. Disassemble equipment as needed to facilitate major component removal and repair.
  • Complete basic, and advanced technical training as assigned.
  • Maintain parts and supplies needed for job completion.
  • Maintain work area cleanliness, and ensure shop remains a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a culture of safety & participate in all safety meetings.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent and Associate's degree from a technical college.
  • Will consider equivalent work experience in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with heavy machinery.
  • Knowledge of Machine Control and Guidance operation.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, power train and engine components.
  • Be able to demonstrate technical, mechanical and troubleshooting abilities. Define, perform maintenance and repairs of construction equipment.
  • Understanding of construction machinery, and its application by our customers.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Professional communication, and basic computer skills.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must own proper tools to perform required repairs.

Typical Physical Activity
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to occasionally lift 75 pounds from floor to chest; reach and use the arms with a full range of motion; endure prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting while performing mechanical operations; exert push and pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools; endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations; use hands to grasp hand tools and parts and climb onto and operate equipment.
Typical Environmental Conditions
Employee regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
