Job Type: Full-time

SUMMARY:

The Gearbox Repair Technician is to support gearbox, main shaft, drivetrain, or related rotating equipment repair, rebuild, inspection, and assembly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the Operation Department by performing value-added work. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Adherence to safety requirements, such as PPE, chemical safety (MSDS), crane, forklift, and workstation inspections, as well as internal systems related to Quality, ISO, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to ensure an efficient and safe operation.
  • Comprehension of internal drawings, bills of material, and procedural documentation.
  • Perform disassembly and assembly of wind turbine gearboxes, main shafts, drivetrains or related rotating equipment.
  • Inspect gears, bearings, shafts, housings, lubrication systems, and auxiliary components for wear or damage.
  • Replace bearings, seals, gearing, fasteners, and damaged components according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and identify failure modes/root causes.
  • Conduct gearbox cleaning, preparation, rebuilding, and final assembly operations.
  • Perform inspection and measurement with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches.
  • Measure and record shaft journal, bores, fits, backlash, runout, and critical tolerances.
  • Document inspection findings during D&I and complete required quality records during assembly.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, tools (shared and individual), and workstations.
  • Adherence to 5S requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on mechanical repair, industrial maintenance, or rotating equipment experience.
  • Experience with gearbox rebuilding, rotating equipment, heavy machinery, or power transmission systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience replacing bearings, seals, shafts, couplings, and gearing components.
  • Ability to safety work with heavy industrial equipment and lifting devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools, cranes, and forklifts.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates with experience in the following areas are strongly preferred:

  • Wind turbine/Industrial gearbox, rotating equipment repair.
  • Heavy equipment, power transmission repair.
  • Experience with Bearing installation/removal tools.
  • Gear inspection and failure analysis.
  • Military mechanical maintenance experience related to heavy equipment or drivetrain systems.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent experience in wind turbine environment.
  • Technical school, military mechanical training, or industrial maintenance certification preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in a heavy industrial repair shop environment involving large gearbox components, rotating equipment, oils, cleaning chemicals, cranes, forklifts, and industrial tooling. The employee must be able to:

  • Lift and move components weigh up to 75 pounds.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods.
  • Work in oily, greasy, noisy, and industrial shop conditions.
  • Safely work around heavy equipment and suspended loads.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments safely and effectively.
  • Read and interpret technical documentation and inspection records.
