Summary
Performs the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment, wiring, and structures to maintain a maximum level of system reliability to the bulk system and the distribution high voltage substation system.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Under supervision, the S&T Electrician B Intern will:
โ€ข Install, repair, and maintain transmission and distribution circuit breakers, synchronous condensers, transformers, air/load break switches, switchboards, foundations, structures, buses, controls, conduit systems, switchgear and other electrical and electronic equipment.
โ€ข Analyze and correct malfunctions of all types of electrical and electronic equipment.
โ€ข Perform work near or on energized equipment using live line tools, rubber gloves, or approved bare hand techniques.
โ€ข Operate and maintain various types of line switches. May perform switching and tagging orders to clear equipment for Transmission Grid Controllers.
โ€ข Direct the work of others in accordance with the Oncor safety handbook.
โ€ข Develop written procedures for use by other craft employees to help ensure that construction and maintenance activities are conducted safely without unnecessary system exposure, customer or facility interruption.
โ€ข Maintain a knowledge growth and skills development mindset in an effort to continually improve individual and team performance.
โ€ข Assist in the training of new employees and reinforces strong work practices with veteran employees.
โ€ข Adhere to corporate core values.
โ€ข Build and sustain relationships with other employees to nurture a strong work environment.
โ€ข Maintain a high level of quality control to exhibit excellent workmanship.
โ€ข Plan work in an efficient and economical manner to support district budget expectations.
โ€ข Prepare and process documents to maintain equipment records and database information.
โ€ข Operate machinery and maintains license and /or certifications where necessary.
โ€ข Diversity by learning the bulk power system within the district and may patrol/repair lines, particularly in storm situations.
โ€ข Perform other duties as required.
Education, Experience & Skills
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
  • Currently enrolled in an A.A.S. in Electronics/Electrical Power at a qualified institution.
  • Candidates with electrical / electronics related experience are preferred. Coursework in electrical and electronics related fields and math are a plus. Personal computer skills are a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (Class A license with a CDL endorsement preferred).
  • Enrollment and continual progress in the Transmission CAPS program is required.
