Job description

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Equipment Repair Specialist is to act as a point of contact between the office and the maintenance and repair events related to both company-owned and non-company-owned intermodal/dedicated and over-the-road-equipment. Their responsibilities include deciding the best course of action for fixing containers, chassis, tractor, and trailers. They must make sure to comply with repair vendor selection standards, prioritize driver satisfaction and safety, and minimize equipment and driver downtime while keeping costs under control. Additionally, they should assist drivers with tire and equipment issues. They must communicate effectively and keep all involved parties informed throughout the Hub Group network using various applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Promptly and cost-effectively request repairs for roadside breakdowns and idle equipment across the HUB network using both phone and computer applications.
  • Efficiently communicate with drivers, account managers, and operations support to gather the required information for arranging the right vendor(s) to carry out repairs. 
  • Ensure prompt follow-up with vendors to obtain estimated time of arrivals (ETAs) and roll times. Record all necessary details in the relevant application and make sure that the equipment statuses are accurately and swiftly communicated to the essential participants.
  • Keep track of the status of repairs and bring any problems that can not be resolved to the attention of management. 
  • When possible, identify cause of failure to determine responsibility party for possible re-bill opportunities to customers or outside motor carriers
  • Identify and escalate recurring issues to management that could lead to cost reduction opportunities
  • Execute repair procedures following Commercial Agreements, FMCSA guidelines, and Hub policy.  
  • Provide direction and repair instructions to HGT shops, outside shops, and road service vendors to minimize equipment and driver downtime. 
  • Oversee and authorize repairs conducted by external vendors.
  • Using Maintenance application (TMT) create repair orders, divide sections into categories according to the system platform, and include relevant line items that correspond to the repair work requested to either internal or external shops. Update the status of repair orders between open (indicating work in progress), complete (indicating job finished), and closed (indicating the invoice is attached to the work order and the repair order matches the invoice) for maintenance records and payment process purposes. 
  • Complete or assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned 
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fleet Maintenance experience is preferred but not required
  • Customer service or call center experience is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in web-based applications and with Microsoft Office products; emphasis on Excel and Outlook
  • Capable of initiating tasks independently and communicating and interacting effectively with all levels of staff, customers, and vendors, while being able to work with minimal supervision. 
  • The ideal candidate for this position possesses excellent interpersonal abilities, problem-solving skills, and effective communication skills when dealing with internal and external customers, as well as vendors, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service. +
  • May require flexible schedules, including nights and weekends occasionally.

Salary:

$52,500 base salary + bonus eligibility
