DESCRIPTION

Tutor Perini is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator - Underground Utilities. This pivotal role is responsible for preparing complete and accurate cost estimates for underground utility construction projects, including water, sewer, storm drain, gas, and related infrastructure. This role requires in-depth industry knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead the bid process from concept through final submission, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in our bids. Lead the development of detailed cost estimates for underground utility projects, including take-offs, labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of heavy civil construction projects with an emphasis in underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems. At the present time, this estimating professional needs to have hands-on daily experience bidding major infrastructure projects. This position would receive direction from and work closely with the Vice President of Estimating.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Acquire plans, specifications, soil reports, historical bid files, and historical job cost information necessary to perform a detailed estimate.
  • Coordinate quantity takeoff with the takeoff engineers.
  • Coordinate and mentor the assigned engineers to ensure takeoff is performed correctly and efficiently.
  • Travel to jobsite and pre-bid meetings as required.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the plans and specifications including pertinent or unusual project specific requirements.
  • Solicit subcontractor and material quotes as required and maintain documentation for all good faith efforts as required.
  • Contribute to the overall preliminary schedule to determine the length of time necessary for pricing of general conditions.
  • Understand all aspects of the bid proposal including pricing based on labor productivity, crew types, and listed requirements.
  • Perform the preparation of detailed estimates.
  • Assemble information for each bid into organized bid packages and files.
  • Complete estimate in a timely manner with ample time to review with the Senior Management.
REQUIREMENTS
  • BS in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering, with 10+ years of preconstruction/estimating and/or operations experience on heavy civil construction projects, with 5+ years' experience in underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems.
  • Business Math skills to create and understand estimates and budgets.
  • Additional math skills necessary to calculate areas, volumes and tonnage.
  • Ability to read and understand geotechnical reports.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and pricing.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to use estimating software such as OnScreen Takeoff, spread sheets, bid management, online plan rooms and database applications and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook) Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD 3D, and HCSS Heavy Bid.
  • Possess good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resourceful and diligent in seeking solutions to problems and adapting to new situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of general civil earthmoving is helpful but not required.
