Job description

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible to perform the job duties listed within including the application of engineering theory and principles to problems in manufacturing and production. The employee may study and record the time, motion, method, and speed involved in performance of production operations for such purposes as establishing standard production rates, improving efficiency, and designing effective quality assurance operating procedures. The employee may be assigned to system level processes or specific customer related assignments. The skills of the Quality Engineer must be of the highest caliber and on a level consistent with those employees doing similar work employed at similar operations. Productivity, efficiency, and minimal waste are critical elements of daily operational work for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards and associated documentation.
    • Monitor and recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards, procedures, processes, or documentation to achieve optimum quality.
    • Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
    • Prepare graphs or charts of data or enter data into computer for analysis.
    • Record data applying statistical quality control procedures.
    • Compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
    • Work with customer representatives to address nonconformance/MRB activity and corrective actions.
    • Aid in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, or anticipated delays.
    • Confirm that all standard operating procedures are being completed. Confirm that all operations comply with all state and federal laws for safety and labor compliance.
    • Perform system internal audits to assess the health of the company Quality Management System.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or related to position.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Education: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience: 1 Year experience working in the Quality Department

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Physical Abilities:

  • The employee must be to work physically in an office and production area. Employee may sit at a keyboard for long periods of time. In the production floor the employee might be exposed to a noisy or dusty and have materials such as metal shavings on the floor with ambient temperatures that are warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter.

Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and implementation of processes and procedures for various goods and services.

Professional and Interpersonal skills:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
