Work Status: On-site

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Summer Hire applies their educational experience in a real world setting by supporting members of Taco's Manufacturing Engineering team. They assist with ongoing process and flow improvement projects and the Gemba reimplementation to help meet company goals. They support the design of various tooling and components to help rebuild some of the worn tooling and fixtures across the facility. The Manufacturing Engineering - Summer Hire also helps to organize the team's file structure and better define how their information is organized within the company directories.

Measures of success:

  • Individual Gemba boards in selected cells
  • Accurately organized team files within shared network
  • Created documentation with support from Engineers for use related to ISO requirements

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to and assist with process and flow improvement and Gemba projects
  • Support design of tooling and components through drawings/models, process improvement documentation and input of equipment guides and care manuals in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Assist in creating department-specific documentation and standards related to ISO 9001 requirements
  • Work closely with the manufacturing engineering team to improve documentation organization
  • Backfill the equipment manual library into the CMMS
  • Create and revise computer-aided design (CAD) files as needed
  • Draft process specifications for the Gemba process
  • Attend team meetings, project updates, kick-offs and any other meetings as required
  • Attend daily production and Gemba meetings
  • Present to the operations leadership team regarding lessons learned at end of internship
  • May handle confidential information

Qualifications

Required:

  • Junior or Senior enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of process flow design, 3D CAD modeling and Lean principles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • No travel required

Work Environment

This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology.  Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant and testing lab where large equipment and noise are prevalent.  Safety gear is required in these areas.

This position reports into the site every day.
