Job Title: Youth and Family Program Director - Wheeler

FLSA Status: Exempt Job Grade:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the Supervision of the Executive Director, the Youth and Family Program Director is responsible overall operations of youth development programs including Youth Sports, Rockwall, Teen Programs, Youth Enrichment Programs, Family Events, Party Rentals, and Summer Day Camp.

The position will focus on building cohesive relationships in the community and with local schools, increasing enrollment in all program areas, developing new programs, and supervising part-time and seasonal staff. This is a leadership level position and will work with Association program teams, branch leadership team and will manage the department budgets. This role also serves as Camp Director during the summer for day camp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Drive revenue through the effective management of current programs (Sports, Teens, Camp, Youth Enrichment Programs, Family Events, and Party Rentals) while creating new programming to meet the needs of Y members and our community.
  2. Lead all aspects and Youth and Family programs including onsite and offsite sports programs.
  3. Manages all aspects of Camp Director responsibilities including supervision, coordination, promotion, parent relation, school relations, curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.
  4. Knowledge of Office of Early Childhood (OEC) regulations, YMCA of Greater Hartford procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines, and Branch regulations.
  5. Responsible for ensuring all new staff members are provided with an initial orientation that introduces them to all aspects of program operation.
  6. Manage the daily operations and personnel of assigned department and programs. Recruit, train, supervise and develop staff members and volunteers to conduct programs and services. Monitor and evaluate performance.
  7. Ensure all site operations are consistent with YMCA Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance, reporting accidents/incidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting system.
  8. A general understanding of financial management principles, including budget preparation and management, the needs and expectations of regular auditing, and a system of sound fiscal controls.
  9. Ensures quality supervision and safety of all aspects of programs at designated site through development and implementation of handbooks pick up and drop off policies, background checks on all staff.
  10. Maintains all necessary OEC regulations, and licensing requirements in conjunction with Association Guidelines. Ensure site summer day camp complies with OEC, and Care4Kids.
  11. Auditing and maintaining an effective file system for all children and staff.
  12. Ensure all YMCA Compliance site inspections for summer day camp are corrected within required time period.
  13. Responsible for ensuring required child to staff ratios are always met.
  14. Develop resources to expand programs and enhance family involvement in assigned YMCA programs.
  15. Works closely with local school systems, administrators, principals, and teachers to assure smooth operations of program services, utilization of resources and proper communications.
  16. Participates in annual campaign, and special events.
  17. Participates in Director on Duty responsibilities within the branch.
  18. Any other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ successful experience as a supervisor and manager within the YMCA or equivalent experience outside the YMCA.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Ability to walk, stand and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times, provide verbal direction.
  • Ability to move around a room and quickly react to safety issues (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior).
  • Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful
    situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff).
  • Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, crouching.
  • Ability to lift young children and objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to travel to program locations.
