Startec Compression & Process is dedicated to providing innovative solutions to meet your unique challenges and opportunities.ย  We are an integrated project and engineering equipment fabricator specializing in the modularized design and packaging of process, refrigeration, and rotating equipment solutions.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting an Apprentice Machinist to work dayshift at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). ย The successful candidate will work with the Production Leadership Team, Drafting/Engineering, and shop floor employees to coordinate efforts to meet production schedules, quality, and safety requirements. Shift 5:50-4:20 (4 days/week,10 hours/day). Overtime is as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered as a Machining Apprentice or in the Machinist pre-employment programย 
  • CNC and Manual machining aptitude Is an asset
  • Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in math
  • Basic computer skills
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
PRODUCTION (Weighting 80%)Machine Setup & Operation
  • Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines.
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
Quality Control
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Monitors production, adjusts feed, and other settings as necessary.
  • Checks output for quality assurance and documents defects.
SAFETY (Weighting 20%)Maintenance
  • Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area.
  • Promotes and enforces a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with safety policies and conducting regular briefings.
Documentation
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of production, quality, and safety records.
