Major Responsibilities:

It is the major responsibility of a faculty member at Florida National University to provide quality instruction and career advisement to all students. The faculty also is responsible for maintaining grades and for the development of course objectives, outline, syllabi, and course competencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.

  • Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities.

  • University Engagement: Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, university events, committees, self-studies, and University Commencement Ceremonies.

  • Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor.

  • Compliance Adherence: Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Assigned Duties: Undertake other assigned duties as required.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Instruction and Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in assigned courses at the appropriate academic level

  • Develop and maintain current course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with program learning outcomes

  • Employ diverse teaching methodologies including lectures, laboratory work, projects, and hands-on activities to facilitate student learning

  • Integrate current industry practices and emerging technologies into course content

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to students

Assessment and Student Learning Outcomes

  • Design and administer examinations, quizzes, assignments, and projects that appropriately assess student learning

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work

  • Evaluate and document student learning outcomes for each course

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance

  • Submit all grades and required reports to the Registrar's office according to institutional deadlines

Student Advisement and Support

  • Maintain posted office hours for student advisement, tutoring, and academic guidance

  • Mentor students on academic and career-related matters

  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner

  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources when needed

  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment

Professional Development and Institutional Service

  • Attend all faculty meetings, professional development functions, and assigned university committees

  • Participate in accreditation processes and ensure compliance with licensing and accrediting organizations (ABET where applicable)

  • Continuously monitor and implement improvements at the campus level as identified in Faculty Planning, Assessment, and Implementation processes

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA regulations

Research and Program Development

  • Conduct annual research into local careers and industry trends to assess appropriateness of course and program content

  • Submit annual research findings to the Department Head or Division Head

  • Collaborate with librarians on library program and course collection development, including establishing and weeding resources

  • Ensure all electronic library resources are used exclusively for university work

Education

  • Masterโ€™s degree in computer engineering or related field required. Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.Eng.) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional engineering experience in industry or academia

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent professional certification preferred

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level preferred but not required
