SUMMARY
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a full-time faculty member and coordinator to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in the Computer Support Specialist program at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Instruction & Curriculum Development
  • Teaching & Pedagogy: Provide formal instruction and program leadership utilizing learner-centered pedagogy while maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Curriculum & Syllabi Maintenance: Maintain, update, and align course syllabi to ensure consistency across all instructors; define competencies, grading, scheduling, and textbook requirements.
  • Lesson Planning & Materials: Prepare course lesson plans aligned with approved syllabi, selecting textbooks and educational resources in collaboration with program faculty.
  • Industry Alignment: Ensure curriculum, learning materials, and resources remain current with evolving IT industry standards.

Program Administration, Budget, & Equipment
  • Equipment & Labs: Specify, select, operate, and maintain equipment or training modules required for coursework, keeping technology current with industry trends.
  • Budget & Procurement:Manage the departmental budget and utilize the e-purchasing system to procure programmatic items within financial constraints.
  • Reporting & Compliance: Timely submit required grade, attendance, and administrative reports to support institutional operations.
  • Safety & Student Transport: Ensure students follow safety protocols; transport students for field trips, customer jobs, or off-site activities per college guidelines.

Program Leadership & Faculty Coordination
  • Faculty Collaboration: Hold regular program meetings with faculty and staff; coordinate with all instructors to create year-long course schedules.
  • Advisory Board Leadership: Maintain an industry-based advisory board for the Computer Support Specialist program, convening meetings at least twice per year.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Complete all program review and assessment documentation following Office of Assessment guidelines, coordinating with adjunct faculty to meet institutional requirements.

Student Success, Recruitment, & Service
  • Recruitment & Marketing: Assist with student recruitment and program marketing; collaborate with the Marketing department to develop promotional materials (brochures, web content, media spots, posters).
  • Job Placement: Assist students with job placement opportunities and follow-up tracking.
  • Institutional Service & Growth: Serve on institutional committees as needed and participate in regular professional development.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to train and work with students and learners.
  • Strong computer and technology skills, including programming skills.
  • Knowledge of the latest industry technology and ability to integrate the technology into the program.
  • Adaptability to course technical updates.
  • Proficiency with communication and collaboration tools including Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Able to work professionally and collaboratively with industry partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: College certificate in Computer Support Specialist or a related field.
  • Industry Certifications or Equivalent Degree: Hold (or have held) one or more of the following industry certifications:
    • A+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, or CompTIA Linux+CompTIA
    • CNSS 4011-4016, CEH, CISSP, CISM, or GSEC (SANS)
  • Note: A bachelor's degree in computer science can be substituted in place of the industry certification requirement.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in the computer industry or a closely related field.
  • Administrative & Task Management: Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, schedules, and deadlines for reports and administrative tasks.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, including Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field; OR an associate degree or higher in the program area (or a closely related field).
  • Five (5) or more years of professional industry experience in the relevant program area or a closely related field.
  • Teaching or training experience.
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Blackboard.
  • Demonstrated experience using learner-centered pedagogy.

In alignment with the requirements of the Master Contract and to meet programmatic needs. Primarily during regular hours of Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
