Job description

O'Neal Steel currently has an opening for a Processing & Programmer Specialist at our Mobile, AL facility.

Are you a technically driven professional? At O'Neal Steel, we're more than a steel service center - we're a trusted partner to manufacturers, fabricators, and builders across our footprint. We're looking for a Processing & Programmer Specialist to join our team. This role owns processed orders from quote through production and shipment. It combines programming, hands-on processing support, and order coordination to drive efficient execution, improve throughput, and maximize profitability. This position serves as the link between sales, operations, and the shop floor to ensure work is quoted accurately, produced efficiently, and delivered on time.

 In this role you will:

  • Analyze prints to determine production methods, machine time, costs, and lead times
  • Support inside sales with quotes and pricing for processed work
  • Program machines and optimize nesting for yield and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot programming and machine issues as needed
  • Monitor quality, tolerances, and job flow during production
  • Coordinate orders with operations, vendors, and sales to meet delivery timelines
  • Expedite orders and resolve issues impacting production or shipment
  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce scrap, and increase efficiency
  • Follow and promote all safety policies and procedures in the processing environment

What you will bring:

  • High school diploma
  • Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Programming experience (plasma/oxyfuel/laser) preferred
  • Experience with CAD/nesting software (e.g., SigmaNEST, ProNest, AutoCAD)
  • Experience in manufacturing or steel processing
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written across multiple departments
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively across multiple departments including outside contacts and vendors

  • Accurate and profitable quotes
  • Efficient programs with minimal rework
  • Smooth flow from quote → programming → production → shipment
  • Consistent achievement of lead times (3-5 days where applicable)
  • Improved machine utilization and reduced scrap

Must be able to work 1st shift (8:00AM-5:00PM) Monday - Friday. Overtime will be required as needed.
