Position Summary

The CAD Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Mechanical Design and Drafting team while establishing and maintaining the systems, standards, and processes that support efficient product development and manufacturing execution. This position serves as the owner of CAD infrastructure, engineering data management, drawing standards, release processes, and drafting workflows.

The CAD Manager ensures all engineering documentation is accurate, standardized, manufacturable, and released on schedule while driving continuous improvement initiatives across CAD, PDM/Vault, ERP integration, configuration management, and manufacturing documentation.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the drafting and design team.
  • Manage workloads, priorities, and resource planning.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
Engineering Documentation & Release Management
  • Own the drawing release process and ensure on-time completion of manufacturing packages.
  • Establish and monitor drawing release KPIs and department performance metrics.
  • Ensure released documentation meets quality, manufacturability, and compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement of release workflows to reduce cycle time and errors.
  • Maintain revision control processes and engineering change implementation procedures.
CAD Standards & Design Governance
  • Develop and maintain CAD standards, templates, drafting procedures, and GD&T requirements.
  • Conduct drawing reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and manufacturability.
  • Drive standardization across products and engineering documentation.
Product Data Management (PDM) & Systems Ownership
  • Own and maintain SolidWorks PDM/Vault, including workflows, permissions, and revision controls.
  • Lead continuous improvement of engineering data management processes.
  • Support CAD, Vault, and ERP system integration initiatives.
Manufacturing Documentation
  • Establish standards for assembly packets, manufacturing packets, and BOMs.
  • Improve engineering workflows to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to support operational excellence.
Technical Design Support
  • Review complex designs, drawings, and assemblies for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of mechanical design/drafting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience required.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks PDM/Vault administration.
  • Experience integrating CAD systems with ERP/MRP platforms.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOM structures, and configuration management.
