Job description

Product Development Engineer - New Pig - Altoona, PA 16601

New Pig Corporation, a leader for providing Environmental and Safety solutions for businesses throughout the world, is seeking an R&D Product Engineer to become part of our Product Development Team. This person will play a vital role in solving customer problems by researching technical options, designing new products, and adding the needed technical horsepower to bring products from ideation through to commercialization and manufacturing.

Our product engineers need to have broad technical aptitudes and interests, rather than being specialists in a single engineering discipline. The ideal candidate will have an aptitude toward problem solving, be very comfortable being hands on building prototypes, and be able to use technical thinking to create solutions and develop innovative, functional products.


Responsibilities:
Brainstorm potential solutions for customer problems based on insights
Collaborate with team members on suggested technical approaches for projects
Responsible for form, fit and function of design and cost breakdowns
Design and draft products and parts using 2D and 3D CAD software
Design, build and test prototypes
Design and develop test methods to qualify products for customer use
Source, qualify, select and manage relationships with material, tooling and other supply and service providers
Travel to supplier locations for development trials and production qualifications
Provide manufacturing/production support for new products and continuous improvement of existing products
Contribute knowledge and stay up to date on manufacturing techniques for: metals, plastics, non-wovens, laminations, formulating and structural packaging (and we know our Engineer will need to learn some of these operations on-the-job)
Help answer technical questions from: Customer Service, Technical Product Support, Marketing, Manufacturing, supply partners and customers
Technical documentation of key project decisions and design changes
Integrate with Marketing teams to support tasks to introduce new products such as:
o Product performance testing and marketing claims
o Product packaging and literature (assembly, how to use, etc.)
All other duties as assigned or directed
Adhere to New Pig's Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards

Requirements:
BS in Engineering (or equivalent in practical experience)
Plastic part design experience and knowledge of mold flow, draft, and resins a plus
Solid experience and competence with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks a plus)
Project management experience
Effective communication skills and superior attention to detail
Ability to work independently and in team environments
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Knowledge and experience with supplier management and negotiation
Demonstrated ability to distill and capture learnings from multiple viewpoints including: customer visits/calls, market data, competitive offerings, supplier operations and other information sources
Background involving skilled trades, mechanics, equipment repair, etc. a plus

This onsite position works out of our Altoona, PA location
