Staff Designer, CAD
Portage, MI
As a Staff Designer, CAD, you will provide advanced design and digital engineering expertise to support the development of electromechanical medical devices within Stryker's Orthopaedic Instruments business. In this role, you will create, manage, and optimize complex CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and product documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.
Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you will translate design requirements into manufacturable solutions that meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards. You will support concept development, prototyping, design verification, and manufacturing readiness activities while helping drive design integrity, data accuracy, and continuous improvement across new product development programs.
What You Will Do
  • Create, modify, and manage complex CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and bills of materials in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Translate design inputs into manufacturable product designs while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate product designs with cross-functional engineering teams to verify function, durability, manufacturability, and design integrity.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Support prototype development, design verification activities, testing, and engineering analyses throughout product development.
  • Submit and manage engineering documentation through design control, approval, and change management processes, including engineering change orders.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project activities to support the delivery of mechanical assemblies, prototypes, and product development milestones.
  • Train and mentor team members on CAD methodologies, design documentation practices, and established engineering standards.

What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 6 years of additional relevant CAD experience, or an Associate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of additional relevant CAD experience, or a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience using CAD, CAE, or related engineering software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Graphics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting product development, design verification, or engineering analysis activities.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering drawings, assemblies, and product documentation.
  • Experience supporting engineering change management and design control processes.
