Discovery's Kidd Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Programmer Analyst.

A growing North America Precious Metals Company, Discovery is committed to combining high-quality gold producing assets in Canada with the world's largest undeveloped silver deposit in Mexico.

Discovery has an experienced team, dedicated to being a highly profitable producer of gold and silver that generates superior returns, delivers substantial social-economic benefits and meets the highest environmental standards.

The Position:

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Programmer Analyst is responsible for the on-going support and growth of one or more business/production applications. The Programmer Analyst identifies opportunities and gaps between the application's current capabilities and the requirements of the associated user community. Solutions are identified and implemented to delivery valuable capabilities and information to key decision makers throughout the division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process customer service requests, through the complete cycle of receiving a request, investigating/troubleshooting and subsequently fixing the problem. A root cause analysis is then undertaken to identify the underlying problem beyond the immediate symptoms.
  • Discover and analyze business needs, by interviewing customers, interpreting and documenting findings, to ensure the organization's requirements are clearly captured, expressed and internalized.
  • Execute project leader duties through all phases of the project life cycle, including project definition, planning, scheduling, costing, initiation, execution, closure, and post-project review, to ensure the project's associated benefits are delivered on-time and on-budget.
  • Design and document the specifications of proposed solutions, applications, system integrations/interfaces and associated data structures, as input for the subsequent development and implementation stages.
  • Develop application components (eg. processes, programs, scripts, screens, reports, ...etc.) from design specifications/requirements to produce high-quality/defect-free solutions.
  • Co-ordinate activities of individuals contributing to solutions, on a temporary or project basis, to leverage the expertise within the team.
  • Communicate and disseminate information, through written status reports and group presentations, to inform stakeholders of issues/opportunities affecting the application/business function, in terms understandable by both the customer and IS communities.
  • Compile and analyze data, by gathering data/statistics, analyzing trends, to assist enterprise/divisional application owners with the preparation of strategies and business cases.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • College/University degree in information sciences or equivalent with 3-5 years of related experience;
  • Demonstrate strong project management and time management skills;
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a large, diverse customer community;
  • Working knowledge of relational database technologies and associated development tools.

Compensation and Benefits:

Competitive total compensation package including:

  • Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; and
