TITLE Graduate Peer Tutor

DEPARTMENT Graduate Academic Services

REPORTS TO Katherine Worthington, Assistant Director Graduate Academic Services, kworthington@babson.edu

PAY RATE $25/hr

THE OPPORTUNITY

Thispositionconsistsofgrouptutoringtograduate students.In general, tutors can expect to hold onegrouptutoringsessionper week for 1-2 hours per session, and a handful of office hours for the duration of the course. Tutors will clarify learning problems in specific subject areas,assistin reviewing class material, discussing course texts, problem-solving, and test preparation. Tutors can also expect to spend timepreparing foreach tutoring session for 2-3 hours per class. This preparation includes meeting with professors and occasionally attendingclass. Betweentutoring and preparation, the weekly time commitment averages around 10 hours.

WhileGraduate Peer Tutorsare not expected to know every detail of these courses, atutorwill need tospecialize in one or more specific graduate coursesor equivalent course contentamongst the following:

  • ACC6110-Resource Planning and Control/Managerial Accounting
  • ACC7800 - Financial Reporting
  • ECN6110-Entrepreneurial Economics; comparable to ECN7500 Managerial Economics
  • FIN6110-Finance
  • FIN7800 - Finance
  • STR7800-Strategy
  • OIM6301 - Programming for Business Analytics
  • OIM7800-Operations and Information Management
  • QTM7800-Business Analytics
  • QTM9510-Optimization Method

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Hold one group tutoring session per week for 1-2 hours per session. Assist students with problem solving, test preparation, reviewing class material, and clarifying problems in specific course subject

Hold office hours during the semester where students taking the course can ask questions about course material

Prepare for each tutor session by meeting with the teaching faculty and occasionally attending class

Check your email regularly and communicate with students about group tutor sessions and office hours. Maintain outlook calendar with group tutor sessions.

Meet with the professors of your assigned subject at the beginning of each semester and regularly throughout the semester.

As schedule allows proctor exams

Complete required tutor orientation, meet with Katherine Worthington as requested and respond to emails in a timely manner

Track attendance at group tutor sessions and share with Graduate Academic Services

Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Ability to clarify course topics and specific problems and explain to others

Must possess strong communication skills when working with individual and small groups of students.

Ability to communicate clearly via email, Canvas, and Outlook calendars
