Position Title:

Assistant Professor - Data Science

Job Description:

We seek candidates who are passionate about undergraduate teaching and who can contribute to the continued development of a vibrant and applied Data Science curriculum. While the position is teaching-focused, candidates who maintain an active scholarly or professional engagement in data science are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in the School of Science, Mathematics, & Technology at Mount St. Mary's University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Data Science beginning August 2026. This full-time position is part of the continued growth of the University's Data Science program and carries the potential for renewal or conversion to a tenure-track appointment pending institutional approval.

The teaching load is four courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate data science courses such as Introduction to Data Science, Exploratory Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and related courses in programming or major electives. Opportunities to contribute to graduate instruction and program development are available.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to effective undergraduate teaching
  • Experience with contemporary data science tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL}
