Overview

The Civil CAD technician is responsible for, but not limited to the support of the construction and preconstruction teams by creating, modifying, and managing construction drawings, topographical profiles, and 3D-surfaces used in the planning and construction of civil engineering projects.

Responsibilities
  • Drafting: Create plans and schematics to support project pursuits or ongoing projects using AutoCAD / AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Surface Modelling: Modify and revise existing drawings as needed to produce interim work surfaces to support sequencing and planning of work activities across large project sites.
  • Quantity Survey: Prepare initial quantity take-offs for estimates and project baselines and progressive quantity reports to support recurring payments certificates using a combination of CAD and Agtek software.
  • Proposal Support: Prepare schematics to support project pursuits and to develop marketing material.
  • Prepare DTM: Assist drone / survey technician in processing raw point clouds to produce Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) and topographical plans.
  • Coordinate with Team Members: Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and engineers to understand project requirements and support planning efforts.
  • Review and Quality Assurance: Conduct quality control checks to ensure that drawings and surfaces are accurate and true representations of reference data and site conditions.
  • Document Management: Maintain and organize a comprehensive filing system for drawings, schematics, and related documents, ensuring all proposal and project documentation is easily accessible and up-to-date.
  • Prepare Drafts for Approval: Prepare and present drafts to project leads and stakeholders for review and approval, incorporating feedback and revisions as necessary.
  • Value Engineering: Work with construction / preconstruction teams to develop solutions to technical problems and suggest improvements to existing designs.
  • Support Project Timelines: Assist in meeting proposal and project deadlines by maintaining a steady workflow and efficiently managing time and resources.
  • Technology and Tool Management: Stay up-to-date with the latest AutoCAD updates and drafting tools to enhance efficiency and productivity in creating designs.
