The Computer Operator position has the responsibility of monitoring multiple data centers using state-of-the-art tools. The individual will interact daily with the customer and users.

Job Functions

  • Initialize and operate computers, servers, auxiliary equipment, peripherals, and information systems according to established procedures
  • Monitor the status of network, network security, and communications equipment components; interpret console messages from system software or applications programs; and perform required actions
  • Perform basic physical work on servers per customer request, including but not limited to server reboots, racking and stacking, network troubleshooting, etc.
  • Note malfunctions, research error messages, and reconfigure systems to bypass failing components
  • Distribute output materials and manage production supplies
  • Load and unload magnetic tapes, perform tape drive maintenance, and initiate and maintain logs of tapes used in system management runs
  • Maintain console logs on system status and problems, including monitoring and recording power, humidity, room temperature, UPS readings, battery monitoring control and readings, and other facility environmental statistics
  • Perform daily systems backup
  • Inform users and managers about the status of services
  • Maintain applicable records, including user lists and equipment inventories
  • Work weekends and/or on designated shift rotation schedules
  • Perform basic maintenance of the immediate data center space, including cleaning, floor tile removal / replacement, etc.
  • Communicate / coordinate higher level required maintenance with the onsite facilities maintenance staff
  • Perform yearly facility audits
  • Weekly virtual training sessions to obtain and maintain our specific data center support certifications
  • Perform security monitoring and escort duties for customers / contractors without authorized access

Experience Requirements

  • Experience with MS Office tools
  • Data center experience preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to push, pull, lift to waistline up to 50 lbs. comfortably
  • Quickly and comfortably ascend / descend 5 flights of stairs in case of emergency

Education / Certification Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
