Job description

We are currently seeking a capable and driven individual to join our team as a Scale House Clerk based in Sarasota, FL, US. In this role, you will be tasked with operating a computerized scale to weigh both incoming and outgoing vehicles. Your primary responsibilities will include meticulously recording details related to each truck, including vehicle category, tags, and driver specifics.

Maintaining precise records is crucial for billing accuracy, and you will also be responsible for carrying out routine audits to verify billing correctness. The ideal candidate will possess intermediate computer proficiency and have previous experience in trucking, data entry, and upholding safety measures in an industrial environment.

Compensation:

$18 - $20 hourly


Responsibilities:

Scale Operator Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Weighs vehicles by means of an electronic scale connected to a computer to determine the weight of C&D material

  • Logs information into a centralized database

  • Calculates costs for drivers based on vehicle weight

  • Maintain a safe, organized working environment

  • Scale Operator Requirements and Qualifications

  • Travels to other sites for backup when another clerk is not in office

  • Can assist with accounting tasks such as collections, cash applications, and other duties assigned

  • Makes appropriate decisions of applicable policies, rules, procedures, regulations, rates, hours of operations, and the customer information computer systems effectively execute all intermediate skills associated with customer service, including, but not limited to, answering and effectively satisfying all customer requests, inquiries, and complaints

Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to operate an electric weighing scale and computer console

  • Ability to make routine arithmetical computations and tabulations accurately and to prepare routine reports

  • Skill in computer operations, including pertinent software applications and a specialized Customer Service system

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate preferred

  • Moderate computer proficiency

  • Experience in trucking or in an industrial yard environment

  • Basic math skills

  • Experience with radio communication

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions, and other business interactions

  • Hearing: Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals

  • Speaking: Able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying sizes with or without amplification

  • Carrying: Able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg.

  • Lifting: able to lift up to 30lbs/14kg.
