Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Integrated Cable Harness Drafter Designer within our Integrated Harness Design team to support the development of cable assembly for all GA-ASI platforms. These are complex products that involve integrating complex systems of advanced technology. This position works closely with engineers in the Electrical Integration Group to provide technical design solutions for a wide range of complex cable design problems. On a daily basis this position uses PTC Creo Parametric computer-aided design (CAD) software or Siemens NX (CAD), and Zuken E3 software.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Working from engineering notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detailed sketches, prepares readable working plans, detailed drawings, parts list, schematics, and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of major components, systems, and assemblies for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
  • Verifies own work, checking dimensions, making mathematical calculations as required using handbooks and catalogs in support of drafting calculations, materials used, and quantities.
  • Determines drawing and view scaling required; inserts necessary reference planes, center and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning in the preparation of production detail drawings.
  • Assures that detail parts and assemblies can be made and that parts and components will fit or interface properly within limits of allowable tolerances.
  • Creates or revises 3D CAD or drawings as needed.
  • Creates as built drawings through field examination of components or systems.
  • Maintains records, files, drawings and part lists, specifications, standards, and other data essential to the completion of engineering drawings as required.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • May direct and audit the work of others.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a high school diploma or a certificate from a recognized organization certifying completion of a training program utilizing technical engineering software applications and three or more years of work experience. May substitute additional education in lieu of work experience.
  • Must have proven experience in advanced drafting techniques and be skilled using 3D CAD solid modeling with a basic working knowledge of manufacturing or operational processes and equipment.
  • Must be familiar with industry practice and standards. Requires proficiency in use of math including algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry as might be acquired through high school and/or trade school studies.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills to communicate ideas and for presenting results along with a good knowledge of computer operations and software relevant to drafting and design tasks.
  • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
