POSITION TITLE: Computer Technician I
DEPARTMENT: Technology
REPORTS TO: Field Services Supervisor
Job Goal:
Responsible for the daily support and service of the District's technology resources. Focus will be to maximize user uptime in the areas of desktop management and security, network support, and various multi-media services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for assisting in the management of the district's daily repair service and coordinating work performed by our business partners.

  1. Responsible for maintaining well organized and clean wiring closets and maintaining the districts cabling network.

  1. Maintain operational power supplies (UPS) for all file servers and networking equipment.

  1. Assist with the development and tracking of PC Images and installation of the correct image as required.

  1. Responsible for the implementation and support of PC software systems such as Microsoft Active Directory, MS Office, Novell GroupWise, and the MS Windows Operating System.

  1. Responsible for the configuration and support of standard classroom and administrative technology, including PCs, printers, projectors, smartboards, DVD players, audio components, phones, software and cabling.

  1. Coordinate and provide basic break fix services on non-warranty equipment to include disk drives, power supplies, monitors, hubs, and networks cards.

  1. Assist in the upgrading and redeployment of computer hardware to meet user requirements.

  1. Participate in technology committees and training programs.

  1. Assist with the support and service of the District's phone systems.

  1. Other duties as may be necessary to provide support and services for the district technology program.

Length of Contract: Two hundred forty (240) contract days. Eight (8) hours per contract day.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Technical Support Supervisor and the Director of Business and Technology in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Technicians as needed
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree or three years professional experience working with personal computers and printers in a networked environment. Must be skilled in the operation, configuration and support of personal computers, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office, and overall computer operations and management of technical resources.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret personal computer manuals and software instructional manuals. Ability to write specific instructions for the operation of personal computers and peripherals and use of software application programs. Ability to listen to users and work with them on an individual basis and to communicate in a clear manner the specific instructions and procedures necessary to achieve and complete the task.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical/computer variables and solve technical situations with minimum assistance.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively with others in a calm and positive manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district personnel. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb a ladder, and walk. The employee is required to lift (up to 50 pounds) and carry computers, printers, and boxes of paper. The use of arms and hands is a regular function and specific vision abilities required by this job include close and constant vision. The abilities to speak clearly and hear adequately are reasonable expectations. The employee must be able to work in a high-stress, fast paced environment.

The noise level in the work place is that of a normal school and classroom. The noise level when working in the computer room can be loud at times. Sometimes the employee will be required to provide their own transportation to other locations within the district in order to adequately perform their duties.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
The employee will be provided a district service van. The employee must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on district policy and state law. The van will be parked at the EPS Technology Facility during the non-working hours.
