About the role
The Control Room - Operator I's is an operator in training. Their sole responsibility is to put in the effort and time to gain the experience and learn the skills required to qualify for Control Room - Operator II (a Qualified Operator). As a Control Room Operator, you are responsible for the real-time monitoring and operation of the RNWBL power generation fleet. Throughout qualification, you will assist and eventually lead in the execution of standard procedures, monitoring of alarms, and reporting anomalies pertaining to plant operations. You will work closely with Field Services and Engineering Teams to ensure the highest Safety, Regulatory Compliance, and Operational Standards are kept across a diverse fleet of Renewable Energy Power Plants, including Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
This role is based in our Tempe office and requires in-person attendance.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring and Surveillance
  • Conduct continuous monitoring of system parameters to ensure optimal performance and compliance with Regulatory Bodies such as the National Energy Regulatory Commission (NERC).
  • Track alarms and log key metrics, reporting discrepancies to senior operators and/or supervisors as need.

Data Recording and Reporting
  • Record and update operational data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Generate report and document system status, incidents, and corrective actions.

Communication and Coordination
  • Relay critical information to shift supervisors and senior operators.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and regulatory bodies during maintenance and troubleshooting via various forms of communication including phone, text, email, and web interfaces.

Basic Troubleshooting and Response
  • Perform initial troubleshooting for alarms and basic issues, following pre-defined steps.
  • Escalate more complex issues to higher-level operators, technical/engineering support teams, and/or field personnel.

Compliance and Safety
  • Adhere to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and operational procedures.

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or control systems is a plus.

Experience
  • Previous experience in an industrial control room setting is preferred but not required. Entry-level candidates with strong technical aptitude will be considered.

Skills and Competencies
  • Basic knowledge of control systems, monitoring tools, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedural steps.
  • Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Average or better typing and computer skills.

Certifications
  • Any industry-relevant certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Maintain attentiveness and focus throughout long shifts while continuously monitoring multiple computer screens.
  • Operate multiple computers and manage multiple monitors simultaneously, with connections to various plant SCADA platforms active at all times.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and system events in real-time, requiring quick reflexes and decision-making abilities.
  • Remain calm and decisive under pressure of multiple ongoing issues, following a decision-making process.
  • Maintain visual acuity and manual dexterity to interact efficiently with control systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety protocols under potentially high-pressure conditions.
