What is the opportunity?

As RBC undertakes a major transformation to increase innovation bank wide, the Technology Infrastructure Datacentre Network Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Network Engineer with expertise in DevOps practices to join this exciting journey that will continue to drive innovation and transform in line with our business partners and industry changes, while building excellence in skills and capabilities.

Working as a member of the Datacentre Network Engineering team the Senior Cloud Network Engineer will specialize in migrating functions and networks to private, public, and hybrid cloud infrastructures allowing employees, partners, and customers to be more competitive, more productive, and more profitable in a global business environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in cloud platforms, network engineering and automation tools, along with a proactive mindset for continuous improvement.

What will you do?
  • Design, plan and test private and public cloud network solutions and the integrations of those

  • Combine Cloud Networking, infrastructure management and DevOps methodologies to design, implement and maintain scalable, secure and efficient cloud-based networks

  • Ensure the cloud network is responsive to user demands

  • Scale and monitor cloud services to serve growing businesses

  • Certify new software and hardware solutions

  • Troubleshoot issues which arise with the goal of improving the service and supporting production as a third level of escalation

  • Leverage APIs to automate the cloud network infrastructure using vendor provided and/or open source tools

  • Work closely with our partners to understand their requirements and provide technical solutions

What do you need to succeed? Must Have
  • 5-7 years of solid network engineering experience

  • Subject matter expertise of Network, Public and Private Cloud solutions

  • Solid understanding of Internet routing protocols and concepts: TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, ISIS and/or OSPF.

  • Possess know-how working with network operating systems such as Cisco IOS-XE, NX-OS, Arista EOS and capability to work in a Linux/Unix environment

  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills, specifically network performance analysis

  • Experience with Agile and DevOps practices and with computer scripting languages for network and cloud automation (Ex.: Python, BASH, Ansible) and using infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for infrastructure provisioning

  • Experience with containerized environments using Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes

  • Ability to write technical documentation, especially in relation to Cloud architecture and hands-on experience with connecting Enterprise Network to Public cloud provides like AWS, Azure and GCP

  • Experience with on-prem and cloud Container Orchestration (OpenShift, Kubernetes)

  • Public Cloud Certification (Azure or AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent)

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Network Overlays and SD-WAN (Ex.: VXLAN, IPSec, Geneve)

  • Previous experience with Load Balancing and CDN design

  • 7-10+ years network engineering and/or technology management experience

  • Solid skills in troubleshooting network issues, reverse engineering, and root cause analysis.

  • Cisco networking certification is a plus (CCNA, CCNP or equivalent)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
