Hatch is embarking on an exciting new chapter as we build our inaugural Government Relations practice â€“ a strategic capability that will shape how we collaborate with policymakers, advance priority issues for our clients, and position Hatch as a key enabler of government projects around the world. This is a unique opportunity to join a team at its inception and help support its direction and impact as a Government Relations Student, starting September 2026
 
We are seeking only the best and brightest – strategic thinkers, relationship builders, and self-starters – who are eager to learn and contribute while helping support the development of a world-class Government Relations function within a global, entrepreneurial engineering and consulting organization. As part of this founding team, you will gain hands-on exposure to new processes, advocacy approaches, and relationship-building across government and industry. 
 
As a Government Relations Student, you will be in a key support role to the Government Relations function, assisting with the analysis of legislation and policies, conducting background research on stakeholders, and supporting the assessment of geopolitical, political, and economic trends as they relate to Hatch. You will assist in preparing Hatch’s leadership for meetings with government officials and may have the opportunity to attend meetings when appropriate. A core component of your role will be to provide timely logistical and administrative support to the function. You will also support data management efforts – assisting with the collection, inputting, and tracking of business intelligence in Hatch’s government relations databases.

Reporting to the Director of Government Relations, you will support offices globally while working from our Mississauga, Ontario office location. 
 
As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Support the monitoring and analysis of legislative, policy, and regulatory changes 
  • Assist with the preparation of briefing notes, reports, and presentations for leadership 
  • Support the development of advocacy strategies and campaigns 
  • Coordinate and support meetings with government officials and industry associations 
  • Assist with data management by consolidating and tracking information from diverse sources into a centralized database 
  • Support the planning and execution of events, including coordination, logistics, and follow-up activities 
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with lobbying and disclosure requirements 

You bring to the role: 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Political Science, Public Policy / Government, Economics, Law, Business, Communications, or a related field from an accredited University 
  • Interest in government relations, public policy, politics, or public affairs 
  • Previous relevant coursework, academic projects, or co-op/internship experience is considered an asset 
  • Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of Excel and data management tools; interest in CRM systems and database management; foundational understanding of macroeconomic concepts 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Attributes required): 

  • Research & Analysis: Collect and synthesize political, economic, and regulatory information; assist with tracking and reporting meetings and outcomes 
  • Policy & Legislative Analysis: Support interpretation and analysis of legislation, regulations, and political trends 
  • Networking: Support efforts to promote Hatch’s brand and value proposition 
  • Relationship Management: Assist with building and maintaining relationships with government officials, industry associations, and stakeholders 
  • Strategic Thinking: Support advocacy initiatives aligned with organizational objectives 
  • Project & Event Management: Assist with campaigns, stakeholder meetings, and government relations events 
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing briefs, reports, and presentations; bilingual (English/French) considered an asset 
  • Critical Thinking & Decision Making: Demonstrate curiosity and sound judgment when evaluating complex issues 
  • Adaptability: Ability to learn and respond effectively in evolving political environments 
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with internal teams and external partners 
  • Compliance & Ethics: Interest in learning about lobbying regulations and ethical standards 

 

Compensation:

Range: $24.00 - $29.00

At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location. In addition to base pay, our total rewards package may include performance-based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs designed to support your well-being and growth.
