Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

About the SAP Internship Experience Program

The SAP Internship Experience Program is SAP's global, strategic, paid internship program that provides university students with opportunities to find purpose in their careers.

Three reasons to intern at SAP

  1. Culture of collaboration: meet with mentors, make new friends across the globe and create a thriving personal network.
  2. Project-driven experience: gain cross-functional skills from our virtual and in-person learning sessions, diverse subject matter experts, and project deliverables.
  3. Gain visibility: with SAP Internship Experience Program in your title, you'll have a global network of SAP leaders, entrepreneurs and career development opportunities at your fingertips.

What you'll do:

Position title: SAP iXp Intern -  AI Engineer Intern (Customer Success)

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Internship Duration: 12 months (min. 3 months)

Working hours: 20-40 hours/week

As an AI Engineer Intern, you will support the exploration, prototyping, and implementation of AI-driven solutions that improve customer outcomes and internal productivity within SAP Customer Success. You'll work with engineers and product stakeholders to build small features, run experiments, and document learnings. Because AI evolves quickly, adaptability, curiosity, and practical problem-solving are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and validating AI use cases that improve operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in the lifecycle of AI projects from ideation and prototyping to pilot deployment under guidance.
  • Support integration of AI capabilities into existing tools and services (APIs, microservices).
  • Research emerging AI trends (LLMs, retrieval, evaluation) and summarize applicability to SAP scenarios.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation, experiment reports, and implementation guides

What you bring:

We're looking for someone who takes initiative, perseveres, and stay curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning. We iterate fast and deploy to production quickly. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and methods is essential.

  • Education: Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field. Exceptions possible for candidates demonstrating strong resourcefulness and creative technical problem-solving.
  • Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled, or recently graduated (start date must be within 6 months of graduation date) from a coding academy/bootcamp, apprenticeship, associate, bachelor's, master's or JD/PhD program
  • Technical Skills:
    • Programming: Comfortable with Python; familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript and basic frontend development is a plus.
    • AI & Machine Learning: Coursework or practical experience with open-source ML/LLM frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain or LlamaIndex).
    • Data: Basic understanding of data analysis, SQL, and use of notebooks; exposure to evaluation/metrics is a plus.
  • Other Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and bias to practical application.
    • Clear communication and teamwork; willingness to learn from feedback.
    • Business curiosity to connect AI work to customer and process outcomes.

Helpful Qualifications:

  • Experience with REST APIs and simple backend services (e.g., FastAPI) and version control (Git).
  • Experience with building full-stack solutions, including UX (React, common web technologies).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (SAP BTP, Azure, GCP, or AWS), containers (Docker), and CI basics.
  • Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): embeddings, vector stores, chunking, and prompting.
  • Knowledge of SAP technologies is a plus (e.g., SAP BTP AI Core/Launchpad, SAP HANA Cloud/SAP Datasphere).
  • Prior involvement in student projects, hackathons, or agile teams; comfort writing unit tests and docs.

Helpful Additional Skills:

  • Interest in information retrieval and evaluation (offline/online tests, A/B basics, guardrails).
  • Basic understanding of secure coding and data privacy concepts.
  • Full-stack familiarity (React or similar) to build lightweight internal UIs.
  • Experience building small internal SDKs, templates, or scripts to improve developer productivity.
  • Background in UX prototyping or user research to validate AI workflows

Meet your team:

This role offers hands-on experience at the forefront of applied AI within an enterprise context-contributing to real-world solutions while learning how to ship responsibly, measure impact, and collaborate across teams.
