JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Criminal Justice Institute Instructor coordinates and instructs Florida Department of Law Enforcement Basic Recruit and Crossover Training Courses.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Instructs Basic Recruit and Crossover Training programs as prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the College.
  • Organizes, records, and processes required training attendance, certification, and/or training documentation.
  • Reviews and administers end-of-course examinations.
  • Secures examination materials and student results per FDLE, CJS, and College policies.
  • Appropriately integrating computer software and technology to provide interesting and professional presentations.
  • Maintains a safe and effective classroom environment.
  • Participates in department, division, and CJI Instructor meetings at least once per year.
  • Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) certified instructor or have a CJSTC 82 Instructor Exemption.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a certified criminal justice officer or three (3) years' experience in the high-liability topic of instruction for which certification is sought.
  • Must be a public speaker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds and be outside in the various elements of weather. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
