The Network Engineer II is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the core and access network infrastructure for multi-family environments. The ideal candidate will have solid networking expertise, hands-on field experience, and the ability to manage network performance across multiple sites. This role serves as a technical bridge between engineering design and operational support.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Design, implement, and support Layer 2/Layer 3 network infrastructure in MDU (multi-dwelling unit) environments.
  2. Deploy and configure routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points at residential sites.
  3. Troubleshoot escalated network issues including packet loss, routing loops, and wireless interference.
  4. Ensure network reliability, redundancy, and uptime in line with SLAs and service standards.
  5. Maintain and update network documentation including diagrams, configurations, and change logs.
  6. Collaborate with project managers, field techs, and customer success teams to support property deployments and upgrades.
  7. Conduct site assessments and capacity planning for new or expanding properties.
  8. Monitor network performance and proactively identify areas for optimization using SNMP and logging tools.
  9. Assist in implementing network security standards, including VLAN isolation, ACLs, and firewall rules.
  10. Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours work for scheduled maintenance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of hands-on network engineering experience, preferably in an ISP or service provider environment.
  • Experience supporting networks in multi-family or commercial building environments.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, NAT, routing protocols).
  • Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting switches, routers, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco, MikroTik, Juniper, Ubiquiti).
  • Practical experience with wireless networking and RF design for high-density residential deployments.
  • Comfortable using monitoring and diagnostic tools like Wireshark, PRTG, NetBox, or similar.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling, fiber optics, and PoE systems.
  • Familiarity with Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching/routing.
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, MikroTik, or Ubiquiti.
  • Strong proficiency in wireless networking, including troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools and systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Understand critical milestones that drive operational excellence.
  • Willingness to travel to local/regional multi-family sites occasionally.
  • Basic technical knowledge.
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer, and software applications including Microsoft Office.
