Technology Service Coordinator

This role is an exciting opportunity to serve as a leader within a diverse and dynamic team committed to transforming public education in the Providence Public School District (PPSD). We are hiring someone who believes in the capacity of all students to achieve at high levels, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders to drive transformative change within and outside of an organization.

The Technology Service Coordinator demonstrates knowledge in the area of computer operations, networking, internet, intranet, client server operation, and characteristics and capabilities of network communications. They have the ability to apply principles and techniques used in networking architecture including digital phone lines. Familiar with switches, routers, firewalls, VoIP systems, Basic IP addressing, and subnet schemes. They are able to manage projects and administer methods of project and process control, budgeting, and cost analysis. They are informed in the area of technology related grants or revenue sources, such as E-Rate.

We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

Education Training And Experience:

  • BA or BS degree in general field or IT School/Certification and/or Associates Degree in an Information Technology major preferred.
  • Three years of information technology experience in a comparable working environment.
  • Experience with K-12 technology and or E-Rate program management, including applications, auditing & inventory systems, workflow & procedures preferred.
  • Experience with the development of inventory & computer specifications and implementation of technology equipment.
  • Experience with Help Desk management systems use and operations.
  • Knowledge in the area of computer operations, networking, internet, intranet, client server operation, and characteristics and capabilities of network communications. Have the ability to apply principles and techniques used in networking architecture including digital phone lines.
  • Familiar with switches, routers, firewalls, VoIP systems, Basic IP addressing, and subnet schemes.

Key Competencies:

  • Be able to manage projects and administer methods of project and process control, budgeting, and cost analysis.
  • Informed in the area of technology related grants or revenue sources, such as E-Rate.
  • Have the ability to work well under pressure of multiple priorities and short deadlines, participate and conduct in meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare reports and write clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
  • Be able to speak clearly, concisely and effectively.
  • Direct and develop installation of improvement in computer & networking inventory controls and equipment.
  • Understand, research and learn information technology trends in order to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the technology infrastructure solutions and forecast future needs.
  • Implement technological improvements and generate solutions related to instruction. Present technology based solutions that meet district priority instructional needs. Recognize, analyze, and deal effectively with problems and issues.
  • Develop, plan, and implement short and long-term goals.
  • Plan, organize, control and direct technical and diversified activities.
  • In addition, be able to analyze and interpret technical materials and problems involving rules procedures and related matters along with preparing and managing budgets.
  • Applying quality control of all E-Rate and technology inventory is mandatory.

Description Of Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, develops, and applies for E-Rate funds, and program discounts from the Federal government.
  • Directs and oversees the development of bids for all E-Rate contracts.
  • Program manages District E-Rate projects and coordinates District inventory control strategies for E-Rate and other equipment.
  • Assists the ITO with the planning, developing, coordinating, and managing the District's computer & network inventory.
  • Assists the ITO with the direction and oversees the planning of upgrades to networks, phone, computer and IT systems.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies, and procedures regarding computer & network inventory, district-wide integration actions and the district's Technology Plan.
  • Participates in the development of bids and specifications for computer, phone and network equipment.
  • Provides advice and guidance to the ITO relative to long range planning and implementation of technology for the District.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
