Job description

SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and securing Summit Academy OIC’s IT infrastructure and systems. This role ensures high availability, performance, and security of platforms that enable staff, instructors, and students to succeed. The IT Infrastructure Administrator partners across departments to deliver technology solutions that advance equity, access, and measurable results in workforce development.

This role plays a critical role in advancing Summit Academy OIC’s mission by ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable technology systems that support high-quality workforce training, student services, and institutional operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Systems & Infrastructure

  • Design, deploy, monitor, and maintain on-premises and cloud-based systems (servers, storage, networks, and virtualization).
  • Ensure high system availability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness to support uninterrupted instruction and operations.
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and lifecycle planning.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices, including access controls, monitoring, backups, and incident response.
  • Ensure systems comply with organizational policies, data privacy requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Proactively identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Collaboration & Support

  • Document system configurations, standards, and procedures.

Continuous Improvement & Results

Technology leadership & AI Focus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a professional school, workforce training, and administrative office environment. The work environment includes classrooms, computer labs, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and common areas across a multi-use campus.

This role routinely uses standard office and IT equipment including computers, monitors, printers, copiers, phones, servers, networking equipment, audiovisual technology, and enterprise software systems. The position may occasionally require work in server rooms, storage areas, or other technical environments.

The role may involve responding to urgent technical issues during or outside normal business hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer and technical equipment operation.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces when installing or troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to travel throughout campus locations to provide technical support and system maintenance.
  • Visual ability to read screens, cables, labels, and technical documentation.

POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible for overtime pay. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; however, this position may require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or outside normal business hours to complete system upgrades, maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency support, or other job duties.

TRAVEL

Limited local travel may be required between organizational locations, vendor sites, training events, or professional development opportunities. Occasional out-of-state travel may be required for conferences or training.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a System Engineer, System Administrator, or similar role.
  • Experience with ITSM platforms, such as ServiceNow, JIRA Service Management, or others.
  • Strong experience with Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred).

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a System Engineer, System Administrator, IT Analyst or similar role
  • Experience in a nonprofit, educational, or workforce development environment.
  • Exposure to Project and Change Management concepts.
  • Exposure to AI driven implementation in IT Operation
  • Familiarity with identity management, endpoint management, and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, AI, M365, Azure Cloud, Infrastructure or Networking).
