Computer Teacher

Position Title: Computer Teacher
Location: Buffalo Science Charter School (BuffSci)
Reports To: Principal / School Leadership Team
Certification Required: New York State Teaching Certification in Technology Education, Computer Science, Business and Marketing, or other appropriate certification as approved by NYSED

Position Overview

Buffalo Science Charter School is seeking an innovative and engaging Computer Teacher to develop students' knowledge and skills in cybersecurity, information technology, digital citizenship, and emerging technologies. The Computer Teacher will prepare students for college and career pathways by providing hands-on instruction in network security, cyber threats, ethical computing practices, and technology fundamentals.

The ideal candidate is passionate about technology education, committed to student achievement, and able to create an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and responsible digital citizenship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver cybersecurity and technology curriculum aligned with New York State learning standards and school goals.

  • Teach foundational and advanced concepts related to cybersecurity, including:

    • Network security

    • Cyber threats and risk management

    • Digital citizenship and online safety

    • Ethical hacking concepts

    • Data protection and privacy

    • Computer systems and networking

  • Design project-based learning experiences that provide students with practical, real-world applications.

  • Utilize technology tools, software, and simulations to enhance instruction.

  • Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback on assignments, projects, and assessments.

  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records.

  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture that supports academic growth and responsible technology use.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Support students in exploring cybersecurity and technology-related college and career opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Valid New York State teaching certification or ability to obtain appropriate certification.
