JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Major Gifts Officer
DEPARTMENT: Advancement
REPORTS TO: Director of Development
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for identifying and cultivating a growing portfolio of major gift prospects, while maintaining and building relationships with existing donors. Emphasis will be placed on securing leadership gifts to the Dordt University Fund and working with donors and prospects capable of gifts of $50,000 or greater in support of important new initiatives and to strengthen existing programs at Dordt University. In some cases, remote work may be considered.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build relationships and secure major gift support for Dordt University through personal meetings with existing and prospective donors.
  • Effectively communicate the mission and vision of Dordt University through face-to-face meetings, written correspondence, and other forms of personal communication.
  • As part of the advancement team, participate in department planning activities to help meet the university's monetary goals and the goals of the advancement division.
  • Work with the advancement team and university communities to identify potential new sources of support and engage volunteers for special development projects.
  • Work to expand Dordt University's donor base in assigned geographic regions and manage a portfolio of assigned donors for cultivation.
  • Coordinate the advancement of Dordt University with Admissions, Church Relations, and the President's Offices
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals for the university.
  • Willingness to travel to accomplish these goals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.
  • Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.
  • Prospective members of the Dordt University community are expected to agree with its sexuality, gender identity, and sexual conduct policy which can be found on the DU website (contact the HR Office if you need additional information).
  • A four-year degree is required. A minimum of 3 years previous advancement experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking ability.
  • Highly motivated, organized and goal oriented.
