Description
Oversees the lab attendants and the day to day operations of the computer labs. Provides technical assistance for hardware and software operations. Keeps records pertaining to lab usage, and schedules labs for one time use.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Maintains files and records of lab users, equipment repair, software requisitions, and maintenance
insurance claims.
• Responsible for the scheduling of computer labs for one time use.
• Available to the instructor using the labs for issues with computers, including any open labs.
• Monitors the computer labs via camera and/or by walking around when necessary.
• Periodically updates/upgrades hardware and software in computer labs.
• Responsible for periodic cleaning and/or supervision of cleaning of computers and furniture in computer
labs.
• Responsible for notifying proper personnel of computer lab room issues or concerns, such as the need
for cleaning, painting, lighting issues, ceiling issues, door issues, etc.
• Ensures proper hardware operations in the labs, including all microprocessors, keyboards, peripherals,
cables and printers.
• Monitors all systems for virus infestation, and takes necessary steps to remove foreign programs in a
timely manner.
• Helps prepare proper purchase, duplication, backup, and distribution of software used in the labs.
• Maintains records to indicate legality of all software being used in the labs.
• Recommends to management additional hardware and software purchases, changes in associated
equipment in the lab environment, and modification and creation of lab policy.
• Provides training and general lab assistance for students and faculty who request such assistance,
including group orientations to the labs and its software applications.
• Creates and modifies lab policy through the Director of Academic Computing and Telecommunications.
• Ensures lab coverage by student workers (lab attendants) and that physical security of hardware and
software be maintained at all times.
• Trains and supervises a staff of student/part-time lab personnel (lab attendants).
• Maintains timely lab attendant payroll information.
• Assures all necessary labs have student personnel coverage (lab attendants) at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in a related field and/or training in microcomputer hardware and software setup,
  • repair, and daily operations.
  • Knowledge of local area networks.
  • Knowledge of current Windows operating systems, Macintosh OS and UNIX.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Supplemental Information
STATUS/SALARY: This is a full-time support staff position for 35 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, Grade XI $47,884, on the support staff salary schedule. The work hours are 8:00am-4:00pm. The position comes with the following employee benefits: • $15,600 Annual Flexible Health Benefit: • 10 Vacation, 12 Medical and 3 Personal Days Earned within First Year of Employment • 16 Holidays, 5 Winter break days, 4-Day Summer Workweek.
