Job Description
We are looking for a part-time Lab Assistant to join the team at our Stillwater Clinic.
The Lab Assistant serves all patients by performing laboratory procedures and supporting departmental, clinic, and organizational operations in alignment with HealthPartners' philosophy, policies, and regulatory standards. Demonstrates service excellence by prioritizing patient care and fostering positive patient relationships, while working collaboratively as a team within the laboratory and with all departments involved in patient care.
Job Qualifications
Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy certification and/or previous phlebotomy experience
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures; to project a pleasant and professional image; plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks; demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others; apply written instructions and standardized work practices; communicate clearly; and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients and families.

Preferred:
  • Six months of experience in a laboratory-specific role
  • Minimum of one year of customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of health care field

Job Duties
  • Obtains blood and nonblood specimens for laboratory testing, following established phlebotomy standards, patient identification protocols, and specimen handling procedures to ensure accuracy and diagnostic integrity.
  • Perform Event Monitor and Holter Monitor placement, ensuring proper lead positioning, patient education, and device functionality to support accurate cardiac rhythm monitoring.
  • Performs glucometer testing for patients, including completion of all required quality control procedures and thorough documentation of results in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Perform pre-visit planning by reviewing upcoming patient schedules, identifying outstanding needs prior to patient appointment, and preparing charts, forms, and required documentation to support efficient and timely patient visit.
  • Enters outside orders accurately into the electronic health record, ensuring proper documentation, order verification, and alignment with clinical workflows.
  • Stocks and maintain clinical supplies, routinely checking inventory levels, monitoring outdates, and ensuring all patient-care areas remain organized, safe, and fully equipped.
  • Verifies proper patient identification and ensures accurate specimen labeling at every step of all laboratory procedures, maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards to protect patient integrity and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Participates in all continuing education, training, and competency assessments assigned by the department, maintaining up-to-date skills and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Follows all infection control policies and procedures, ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned at the department or system level
