Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Lab Monitors provide aid to the facility patrons, as they are the first line of defense when it comes to troubleshooting. The Creative Technology Center facility consists of 28 Audio/MIDI-based computer workstations, with multimedia (music, video, etc.) production, notation, theory, ear training software, as well as word processing, Internet, and other software. Lab Monitors check students in and out, monitor facility usage, and organize and distribute materials.

Job Duties:

  • Assists students in the use of Audio/MIDI workstations and BLPP software packages.

  • Troubleshoots software and hardware-related problems.

  • Monitors Media Center, Immersive Tech Lab, and Learning Center usage via check-in/out database.

  • Assists staff with software and hardware upgrades and overall Creative Tech Center maintenance.

  • Attends regular training sessions on software and troubleshooting.

  • Assists teachers and staff during classes and presentations in the Creative Tech Center.

  • Facilitates the distribution of resources such as musical equipment (Instruments, synthesizers, control surfaces, recording devices), manuals, cables, adapters and other extras for use by patrons.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong interest in improving software and hardware knowledge.

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Interest in learning new software and improving problem solving skills.

  • Good interpersonal, communication skills in order to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
