Applicant Pool for Adjunct Laboratory Faculty, Nursing Skills
Job Description:
The part-time Nursing Skills Laboratory Faculty work at the direction of the full-time nursing faculty. Assists nursing students in the practice of nursing skills according to the principles taught in each nursing course. Assists with setting up appropriate equipment and supplies for college lab demonstrations, additional/remedial demonstrations and practice stations. Maintains proper storage of equipment and supplies. Assists with scheduling students for make-up practice and students who are referred to the lab for clinical skill deficits as directed by the lab coordinator. Evaluates student's skills performance using specific written criteria. Stays informed of nursing course content being taught in the weekly laboratory classes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Current knowledge of nursing practice, including the Law and Rule of the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to make a decision with minimal supervision. Ability to handle several projects at one time.

Essential Functions:
  • Stays informed of course content being taught in the weekly laboratory classes. Attends college lab sessions as needed to observe skill demonstrations. Assists students in the practice of skills according to principles taught in each nursing course. Evaluates students' skills performance using specific written criteria. Assists with maintaining records of laboratory practice and evaluation attendance. Assists with setting up appropriate equipment and supplies for college lab demonstrations, additional/remedial demonstrations and practice stations. Maintains proper storage of equipment and supplies. Informs nursing lab coordinator of any deficiencies/difficulties related to student skill acquisition. Keeps laboratory practice stations and supply areas orderly. Assists with the orientation of new nursing lab assistants. Assists with college lab skill demonstrations. Notifies the nursing skills lab coordinator if additional supplies and/or equipment are needed and if equipment is in need of repair. Assists with year-end inventory of supplies and equipment in the nursing laboratory. Assists with scheduling students for make-up practice and students referred to the lab for clinical skill deficits as directed by the lab coordinator. Assists in tours of the nursing skills laboratory as requested. Assists with maintenance of secure storage of audiovisual materials and computer software. Provides assigned materials to students on request. Other duties as assigned by the nursing lab coordinator.

Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Completion of an approved registered nursing education program. Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse. A Master's degree in nursing is preferred or enrollment in a graduate level course in a program for registered nurses to obtain a master's or doctoral degree with a major in nursing and current valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Ohio. Experience in skills laboratory preferred.
