Job description


Laboratory technicians are involved in a variety of laboratory-based investigations within chemical, physical and environmental areas. The lab results are used to improve process operation and plant performance, as well as for the control of environmental permit regulations.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Knows, understands, and follows all Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Performs physical and chemical analyses for incoming materials, products and byproducts using a variety of techniques and instruments.
  • Operates, maintains, repairs and installs standard as well as sophisticated laboratory equipment (e.g. GC, AAS, UV-VIS, & XRF/XRD).
  • Performs laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support plant operations.
  • Prepares specimens and samples.
  • Carries out routine tasks accurately and follows strictly the methodologies to carry out analyses.
  • Maintains and operates standard laboratory equipment.
  • Needs to understand complex lab machinery and computer programs used to conduct tests.
  • Interprets data and adheres to strict guidelines on documentation when recording data.
  • Uses computers and performs mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs.
  • Validates methods and equipment.
  • Follows and ensures strictly safety procedures and safety checks.
  • External audits.
  • Resolves problems by consulting with engineers or other laboratory managers, technical coordinators, laboratory directors etc. within ArcelorMittal Texas HBI.
  • Creates and maintains a culture of continuous improvement process for the quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Upper Management.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in applied science or chemical technology
  • Work experience in a laboratory as well as equipment maintenance,
  • Experience in analyzing information
  • Lab testing experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
