Job description

Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, or "CRMC", is a 25-bed, non-profit, critical access hospital serving Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma since 1949. As a rural hospital, CRMC is surprising because of its large size and wide variety of services. Although we can provide many of the same services you will find in a big city, we take great pride in our friendly and caring staff.

The Phlebotomist is a meticulous professional who draws blood from patients generally for diagnostic purposes. S/he may test the blood specimens themselves or are responsible for labeling the specimen vials and transporting them to the lab for analysis. The Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Manager supports the hospital providing specific duties including:
JOB DUTIES

  • Identify patients and their personal information by reviewing their identity documents
  • Assess patient needs, reviewing patient history and determining the reason(s) for the blood draw
  • Select gauge needles and prepare veins or fingers for blood draw
  • Extract blood from patients through venipuncture or fingersticks
  • Analyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary
  • Prepare specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients
  • Supply diagnostic notes to physicians or other healthcare professionals, as necessary
  • Clean, maintain and calibrate lab equipment used in the drawing of blood specimens
  • Order laboratory supplies, as needed

The Phlebotomist assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience as a Phlebotomist
  • Understand of proper patient identification methods
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to drawing blood, handling specimen samples and use of relevant medical equipment
  • Experience using effective puncture techniques
  • Knowledge of testing protocols and use of testing equipment
  • Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills including MSOffice, Outlook, Meditech, preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Phlebotomy
  • Certification with the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and/or the National Phlebotomy Association
  • BLS, required
