Job Summary:
The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant 2, Pathology/Laboratory Services. The successful candidate will:
  • Process and handle specimens in Central Receiving Area, including logging and tracking of specimens in Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Provide ancillary support for the operation of the Anatomic Pathology Division of Laboratories.
  • Coordinate and manage the receipt and distribution of daily mail and other records among the laboratory sections.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital requirements of quality management, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects, as needed.
  • Ensure the recording, maintenance and retrieval of records in compliance with hospital and departmental policies
  • Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior administrative and/or laboratory work experience with strong computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite with Word and Excel required.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience in a hospital and/or laboratory setting preferred.
