The Company: GIA is the world's foremost authority in gemology. An independent, nonprofit organization, GIA protects the public trust in gems and jewelry by providing the education, research, and standards that consumers and the jewelry industry rely on to make informed purchase decisions.

Job Summary:
Responsible for accurate data collection and precise inscriptions for stones using gemological devices, and ensuring consistent, high quality gemological reports are being delivered to clients in accordance with GIA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform any of the following or other duties as assigned to meet quality and production goals:
  • Clean and prepare each stone for subsequent processes in accordance with GIA procedures
  • Use tweezers and stoneholders to handle stones
  • Operate gemological devices to measure stones and collect data
  • Operate laser inscription device to perform requested inscription services
  • Prepare gemological reports after requested services have been completed by proofreading, folding,
  • and packaging in accordance with GIA procedures
  • Perform ad hoc duties from various departments as daily needs arise
  • May use a microscope

Complexity:
  • Learn and follow defined procedures/guidelines to perform job; complete tasks through application of detailed procedural knowledge
  • Use judgement to select appropriate action from defined procedures/guidelines; seek help from experienced staff and/or management for troubleshooting non-routine issues
  • Understand that GIA reputation is impacted if procedures aren't followed and mistakes are made

  • Language skills: ability to read, comprehend and follow standard procedures or instruction in local language (proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in English required)
  • Communication skills: communicate professionally (communicate respectfully, listen, articulate/explain issues, use professional tone, know when to email vs call, etc.)

Education / Training / Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED): or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
