Job description

The Medical Laboratory Assistant's primary responsibility is to assist the professional technical staff (Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians) with the preparation of specimens, reagent preparation, preparing specimens to be sent to reference labs, and general laboratory work as required.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing.
2. Prepares testing reagents and restocks supplies as required.
3. Assists in instrument maintenance and documentation.
4. May be requested to perform Waived Level testing.
5. Prepares and loads specimens on the analyzers.
6. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
7. Performs all duties under the direct supervision of the General Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician.

Minimum Education:
Required: High school Diploma, preferably in college prep curriculum
Preferred: Some post-high school training
