Job description

Position Summary

The Behavior Interventionist has primary responsibility for overall instructional behavioral interventions. The Behavior Interventionist is the first line of escalation when student issues arise, and additional support is needed and provides effective leadership to motivate and guide staff and students toward the successful accomplishment of established program goals and objectives. Employee is also responsible for driving the achievement of the school’s objectives by supporting classroom management, tutoring and computer lab assistance, under the direction of the Director of Education or school leader.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assists and supports day to day instructional and behavioral interventions; provides redirection and support to students who exhibit inappropriate behavior in the classroom setting.
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with the national standards,
  • Supervises and participates in a wide variety of academic, vocational, and motivational activities on and off campus; serves as advisor and positive role model for assigned students in support of the Personal Growth Model ® (PGM)
  • Provides one-on-one tutoring and computer lab assistance as needed
  • Participates in the preparation of student’s educational development plans.
  • Supervises students in accordance with operational policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of all staff and students; performs all duties in compliance with all terms and conditions of contractual agreements
  • Manages custodial and maintenance tasks to ensure safe and sanitary facilities are provided.
  • Coordinates and oversees effective operations of transportation and security systems to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the general public
  • Completes/reviews reports, and logs as required; includes Incident Report forms, vehicle maintenance logs, facility maintenance etc.
  • Instructs students in the general care and maintenance of school and equipment; may supervise the safe handling of program property and equipment according to establish policies and procedures ensuring all appropriate safety measures and precautions are observed, e.g., marine vessels, vehicles, equipment
  • Adheres to all contract and state educational guidelines and Quality Improvement requirements.
  • Acts as Safety Security Coordinator; administers first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with American Red Cross standards
  • Assists in the establishment of policies and procedures to provide leadership and control in the event of a school crisis
  • May supervise two- to seven-day overnight trips and occasional extended trips that may require sleeping in tents, boats, Schools’, etc. under varying weather conditions and that may require extended 16-hour workdays/24 hour on-call status
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Transport youth and may drive for other work-related tasks
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

  • High School diploma/GED, Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred,
  • One (1) year of experience within an educational or youth service program, preferably working with troubled youth; or any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
